The Health Improvement Team volunteers are a tireless team of dedicated individuals who work with the public as lay health workers. They take lifestyle and early detection of cancer messages out to the local community using their huge variety of skills and expertise.
Local research and experience suggest that the best way to get often difficult lifestyle messages across is by using champions from within the community who they can relate to. The volunteers perform a job that staff simply would not be able to do. Many of our volunteers have been touched first hand by some of the issues we are tackling. It is this knowledge and understanding that is invaluable when taking our messages out to the wider population.
Volunteers have been integral in the development and communication of the services and help with everything from attending / running events, to supporting exercise classes and activities
